Foot Set Up

feet straight towards home plate
feet shoulder width apart
weight equal on both feet
weight equal between heel and ball of foot
bat has plate coverage when arm is straight out (correction for 2012, arm doesn't extend straight until much later)
knees slightly bent

Holding Bat

door knockers lined up
bat pointing up
hands a few inches from shoulder

Swing

front foot comes off ground moves in direction towards pitcher
shoulders do not turn backwards, bat does not move backwards
front foot plants only toe in ground
arms bring bat straight towards ball from shoulder position
feet begin twisting on toes
hips begin turn as arm straightens out
bat is straight with arm in line with front of home plate
hips finish turn
hands turn right over left in foul through

Coaching Strategies

Defense Setup Players prove their strengths and weaknesses in a variety of drills before games begin. Players are coached skills at all positions, asked preferred positions.
For each game a fielding matrix is determined before the game. The matrix will have 2 versions. One version for games that are close (5 runs or less) and games that are not competitive. Players are given more variety in fielding assignments when the game is not competitive.
Defense Pitcher Our team will be aggressive in attempts to get runners on base to out. The pitchers have a difficult time throwing strikes and at this level of play. Getting players out on base takes pressure away from pitcher.
Batting Lineup Batting average, on-base percentage, base running speed, and current trend will be determined for batting line up. An attempt will be made to have each player lead off bat at least once per year.
